Baby Showers
Our History
At the Bakersfield Pregnancy Center our hope from the moment a mom and dad step into our office is that they would feel that they are in a safe space. We want them to feel at ease when the female volunteer or male coach calls them back. Whether coming for a pregnancy test or parenting classes, every client is invited to attend a baby shower when she is in her final months of pregnancy. In October 2018 we started the baby showers with little more than some baby and mommy gifts, a lunch and Costco cake. What started with a sign up list of 5 women ended up being 8 clients and adding! The first baby shower was such a hit that we continued throwing baby showers and donors caught wind of it. We began receiving phone calls from churches and ministry leaders, donors and volunteers, asking how they could help, and what to donate.

What We Do
In 2020 we have celebrated 78 clients, that includes mostly mothers but some fathers! At every baby shower our moms and dads get a gift, and we load them up with diapers and baby items they can begin using immediately. We know babies grow fast so we also give them gifts that their baby will fit into at 6 months, 9 months, and sometimes even 12 months. We want to make sure they have a little bit of everything! Since the Covid-19 pandemic, we have changed our baby showers up a little bit. We are still celebrating moms and dads, but doing so at a distance, with masks, and allowing moms and dads to stay in their cars. Yet even with the changes, our message and mission remains the same: to empower individuals to make life-affirming choices regarding their pregnancy and sexual health. Often we add small invitation cards from a local church, a devotional, or Christian book that the moms and dads can read to themselves or with their children. Newborn gift bags many times come with a small children’s book containing a Bible story. While we might not see these couples, single moms, and newborns ever again, we know that they experienced through our gifts, smiles, applause and attention the love of Jesus.
